Leather Hole
Repair CT

We support the hole from below, fill it and match the color, whether it is a puncture, a burn or a spot where leather is missing, so the original panel stays on the piece. You can arrange the leather hole repair CT homeowners need with just a few photos.

Types of hole

Each hole gets its own method

How big it is, and whether leather has been lost, sets the way we close it. A single close-up usually shows us which leather hole repair CT method your piece needs.

Leather with a tiny puncture
Tiny puncture
Made by a claw, a pen or a staple. Filler on its own is enough to close it.
Leather with a pushed-in hole
Pushed-in hole
Small, with its edges curled inward. We ease those edges back out before setting the backing.
Leather with a burn hole
Burn hole
Melted by a cigarette or candle. We trim the hard, blackened rim back to clean hide first.
Leather with a big opening
Big opening
Some leather is gone and foam is visible. It takes a sub-patch, and often an insert cut from matching leather.
Leather with a on the seam
On the seam
The opening lies on the stitch line, so we rebuild the seam together with the leather next to it.
Leather with a hole and tear
Hole and tear
The hole has spread into a rip. We close the two at once over a single backing.

Support comes first

Under most holes sits nothing but soft foam, and filler pressed in from the front just sinks, then cracks. That is why each leather hole repair CT job we do goes together in three layers.

  1. A backing underneathWe slip a flexible backing beneath the opening, so the repair has support from the foam side.
  2. Filling levelFiller, or a matching leather insert on larger holes, brings the spot up flush with the surface.
  3. Texture lastWe press grain into the final coat, so the area reflects light the same way as the leather beside it.
The process

Support and Build Up
01. Support and Build Up
With the backing in place, we add filler in thin layers that stay flexible.
Match the Color
02. Match the Color
We apply the matched color and fade it out beyond the repair's edges.
Topcoat
03. Topcoat
A clear coat at the leather's original sheen seals the repair and protects it.
Missing leather

Finding leather for the insert

Compound by itself will not fill a big hole. When a leather hole repair CT job has leather missing, these are the places we source the insert from.

Beneath the cushions

The deck under the seat cushions is often cut from the same hide, and nobody ever sees it.

Behind the back

Some sofa backs hide a flap or lining that can spare a small piece.

New matched leather

When no hidden leather can be spared, we choose a new piece to match the grain, weight and color.

Recolored to blend

Wherever the insert comes from, we recolor it so it looks like part of the same panel.

Do I need a new panel if my leather has a hole?

Usually not. The leather hole repair CT homeowners get from us supports the opening from underneath, fills it and matches the color, so the original panel is kept. A new panel only makes sense if the hole is huge or the surrounding leather is wearing out as well.

Part of the leather is gone. Can that be fixed?

Yes, with a matching insert. When we can, we take it from leather hidden on the same sofa, so the color and grain already agree.

Does the repaired spot end up hard?

No. Both the backing and the filler flex with the cushion as you sit. A stiff, glossy patch usually points to a glue kit.

Can you repair a hole from a cigarette burn?

Yes. We cut the scorched edge back to healthy leather, then treat it the same as any other hole.

How do I find out what it costs?

Send a close-up of the hole with a coin beside it for scale, and a photo of the full piece, by text or email to (347) 310-7483 or office@leatherrestorepro.com. You will have a price before anything is scheduled.
