Our method

Match to the unused end

On any leather sofa, one end gets the use and the other barely gets touched. The busy seat scuffs, fades and cracks, while the opposite arm keeps the original factory color and sheen. We match to that untouched hide rather than a sample card. The job begins with a picture of the good end and is done when no one can say which end had the wear.

Mend one panelWe work only on the section carrying the scratch, crack, tear or stain.
Restore the colorWorn and sun-faded spots tinted back to match everything around them.
ReupholsterFresh hide over a solid frame once the old leather has nothing left.
Color matters

Light and dark sofas are different repairs

Ivory hide reveals denim dye and any repair border; black hide conceals fading yet turns scuffs into light streaks. So a leather sofa repair CT quote looks first at color and hide type, and only then at how big the damage is.

Damage we fix

Chances are you will spot yours here

Sofa damage sorts into two kinds. Finish damage lives in the top layer and gets mended and recolored. Deeper damage runs through the hide or beneath it, and calls for filler, a backing patch or fresh foam.

Hands-on

The steps on each panel

Every leather sofa repair CT clients schedule is handwork, one panel at a time: we clean and prep the hide, fill scratches and cracks, build the color back, seal the topcoat and restitch seams. Related: scratch repair, crack repair and tear repair.

How it works

  1. Send photos

A shot of the full sofa, a close look at the problem, and one of the end that sees no use.

  2. We read the leather

Whether it is pigmented, aniline or bonded sets the limits of the repair.

  3. Get a price

A single written number for the panels, the color work or new upholstery.

  4. Matched to the good end

Tone and sheen compared with the hide that never got worn.

Before and after

Original hide, kept in place

Cracking and fading had spread over the arm and seats of this one. We kept the leather, filled the cracks, built the color back and sealed it to match the sheen on the back cushions. That kind of restoration, not reupholstery, is the bulk of leather sofa repair CT owners schedule.

Color restoration

New color, original hide

Color goes first on the arms and the front of the seats. Recoloring returns them to the shade of the rest of the sofa with nothing replaced and no added seams or stitching. See leather color restoration and faded leather sofa repair.

A straight answer

When reupholstery makes more sense

Bonded leather that flakes, hide that has rotted, or wanting a different color altogether all mean recovering the frame is the better route. The pictures show us that, and we would rather tell you than sell a fix that fails. Related: leather sofa reupholstery and peeling leather.

An easier fix

Saggy cushions usually mean spent foam

When seat cushions slump and wrinkle, the hide is typically fine and the foam inside has worn out. Fresh foam and fiber plump the cover back up and the wrinkles disappear, with the leather left untouched. Related: sofa cushion replacement and leather cushion repair.

Questions

Leather Sofa Repair FAQ

Questions from Fairfield County to Mystic before a leather sofa repair CT booking.

Can you repair one damaged area without redoing the whole sofa?

We can. The typical job touches one or two panels, such as a scratched seat, a cracked arm or a torn back. We feather the repair into the surrounding panel and leave the rest of the sofa untouched.

Will the repair match the color of my sofa?

We tint against your own sofa instead of a printed chart, using the unworn end as the reference, since it still shows the original color before fading set in.

My leather sofa is peeling. Can it be restored?

Bonded or bicast leather peels because its top layer is lifting off the backing, and that is past restoring. Those panels can be reupholstered. Genuine hide that is cracking can normally be mended and recolored.

Is it worth repairing an old leather sofa?

In most cases, provided the frame holds up. Fixing or recovering a well-built frame with tired leather costs much less than buying a new sofa of the same grade. If it is not worth doing, the pictures will tell us and we will say so.
